( Out of character : Been wondering whether I should write this or not.. but guess the idealist in me won the fight as i'm writting this after all.
I've been playing the game for quite some time. I left for almost three years (for personal reasons unrelated to the game) but missed playing it. Eventually returned. Personally I really enjoy it, else I would not be playing it. The concept is great, some mechanics could be this or that, or we could disagree on this or that, but mostly is quite a polished work. Personally, I would love to have some further choices that would force us to pick, instead of being just "great at everything", but it's beholder's idea and concept and their world, and i'm just a guest here
The game is rich enough and complex enough. Challenging enough. And it even gets more fun (for me at least) when I rp it.
I would love to have more players around? Definetely. But guess that's not easy as just wishing to be. Most players nowadays want
a) not too complicated things
b) overgraphical things (even if there is nothing behind those graphics)
c) get tired of everything , way too soon and too early (zero patience, zero effort)
The game has a pvp ( player vs player) content. But if fairly minor. There is much more pve ( player vs enviroment) content . Some events are more pvp orientated than others, but even so, most are happy with crystal clones (aka non-playing characters/targets). But.. even so, there is pvp. You can be attacked any time, any moment. Accept it, deal with it. If you can't, then maybe the game is not for you. Nothing wrong with that. The same way I don't like and don't play soccer games (for example). Don't know if Beholder would consider a way to make some doomlords civilians, or what we could consider that, away from daily bloody struggles, although I would consider that it would pretty much kill some of the lore and spirit of the game, of what doomlords really are. The same way a scorpion is what it is, so are galekti.
I don't have much time lately, so honestly have not checked those too far from my character's level range / gap. But been more an underdog than a topdog/alpha all the game. The game allows enough mechanics to play succesfully as an underdog. You will still be attacked, true. And if anyone is complaining about getting attacked with subplasma, I got to say.. well, how to say it without being too offensive, maybe you should consider that this is not a game for you. Subplasma is an ingame mechanic to solve certain problems. If it did affect players more than the message and the "got dragged to torture chamber", with real effect I mean, like losing hit points (making unable to do anything else from being too wounded), or getting your pets obligerated , then it would be a totally different issue. As it is , it's more a mental thing than anything else.
The real game starts afterwards. When you get attacked and take wounds, when your pets can be hurt. Subplasma is a joke. But it is also a good thing. It will warn players that this is a pvp game. It is not one of those games where you can be crushed to oblivion until you can no longer play it, or you can no longer advance, or worse, when you lose things that you already got/achieved. But even so, there are some measures , some lessons to be learnt. Being an underdog takes some attitude too. Accept defeat, improve, learn from mistakes. See and think what you could do better , what other doomlords are doing. You can also try to talk to other doomlords, but remember, that they also have their own will to choose how they want to play the game.
And no, torture chamber gains are neglectable. Even from very active players. An extra? Ok. But nothing that will make you godly just from it. Most high level players you see are strong because they are old accounts, not because they got outrageous gains from torture chamber. As you raise in level and strenght, the gains from most things are way superior. Holding yourself, hiding in catacomb, or not playing because you fear giving away some tiny ammounts of SE to others is hurting your gameplay more than anything else. Fear can kill more than blades. And no, you can perfectly play without needing to use Ancient Stones to prevent attacks. I did not prevent them. I took them. Many of them. My character still gets attacked many times a day. Big deal. I have continued. And many of those doomlords that were once stronger, are still down there. They might feel strong in their tiny world. They might feel powerful in the land of newbies. If they are happy with that.. fine with me *shrugs* The game mechanics does not allow my character , now more powerful than them, to crush them like the bugs they are... but it is fine too. I don't believe in revenge. For me they are nothing. The same way it doesn't bother me when i see a real spider on its cobweb as I move on. Each to their own.
Sometimes I listen to some players complain. Complan about things that they don't like , and yet, they are doing exactly the same they say to dislike to others. So in the end, it might be, that they don't like losing, while they sure enjoy "beating others". Maybe they need to give their own lives a reason. Maybe they enjoy that. Fine, i guess. Who am I to judge them? I know I dislike that, but each to their own. I know why I play this game. Maybe everyone should ask themselves what exactly they are playing it for.
If all your troubles are getting sub-plasma attacked, then my dear fellows, you don't have a clue of what being a doomlord is... and if so, I do wish you the best.
As my character would say.. "until our paths cross again."
Cheers)
