an hypothesis and an assumption are both statements about what you think is happening. how they are used, however, is opposite. an hypothesis is stated with the intent to test it to determine if it is true. an assumption, on the other hand, is accepted as fact without further consideration.

when you have a prediction about what you think is happening, and you are provided information that that prediction is incorrect, and you continue to believe it anyway, you are wrong and willfully so. that's not a good place to be. that is where you are as you stick to your mistaken assumptions.

you could play the game, you could quit the game, but you choose to linger complaining. toward what end? players i once attacked, like Fos and Khine, have earned my admiration. you have chosen a different path.

"once a day for four days back in january and not since" is how i would put it. daily, constantly, etc. suggest it is ongoing.

Neo2022, i don't really want to get into a semantic debate with you about the meaning of the word assumption, but suffice it to say, just because you assume something doesn't make it true. for example, you are assuming how my clanmate will respond if you message her. you may be right or you may be wrong, but you can't know for sure until you find out.

enzio, "daily" could mean 2 or it could mean hundreds. i wasn't sure, so i asked for clarification. i try not to make assumptions. but i would say if the answer was 2, "daily" is misrepresenting the severity of what was endured.

Neo2022, i think we have a different understanding of the meaning of "assumption." did anyone mock you? no one suggested you beg. i suggested you try communicating.

Neo2022, the assumption is incorrect, but i understand why you'd you make that mistake. that some of the others continue to insist it's true is part of why this exchange isn't more productive. i don't know why you were attacked, and since i didn't attack you, i am the wrong person to ask. my final answer is it's harmless, and you can just ignore it. Beholder has made multiple accommodations because of the complaints - premium can turn off subplasma battles and the lesser scarab was introduced. but the complaints still come.

here's my thought on minion battles. it's the same thing except minion battles never appear to the target, so people don't flip out over them. it's a reminder that you can simply ignore harmless effects, live your life, grow your character, and kick some butt. i wasn't always an alpha in this game. i have been attacked. i didn't like it. but instead of complaining, i improved. i hope you will take that path.

Gerald, i have said that i think it's pointless if the subplasma target has the scarab more times than i can count. i have also said that it's legal and harmless. so to keep complaining is also pointless. what is it you hope to gain?

Neo2022, when you say "daily attacks," how many are we talking about exactly? and since nothing is actually stolen, why not just ignore them? if you look at my initial responses to catwoman, they were not argumentative. but there are scores of pages of history in this forum on this topic. i keep getting asked why someone would subplasma attack a target who has a scarab, but i am not the right person to ask that since i don't intentionally do that. has anyone actually spoken to the person who attacked them or is this just a bunch of people unproductively publicly complaining?

Neo2022, since you seem to be really thinking about this rather than merely lashing out, let me ask you one more question. why doesn't anyone complain about minion battles? they, too, are harmless attacks.

maxhths, you are reading to argue, not to understand. i've been repeating the same thing over and over. these attacks are not "pointless" if the target can be dragged into the torture chamber. i've attacked ONE player (more than a month ago) who had a scarab because i didn't realize he had one. of course, i am allowed to attack regardless. the other recent complaints are not about attacks from me. it is not "debatable" that i instructed a clanmate to attack on my behalf. i did not. i have firsthand knowledge. you don't have to believe me. you are free to be wrong. i use words to express myself. perhaps my clanmate is annoyed by the complaints and expressing herself in her own way. of course, she is allowed to attack regardless.

Neo2022, i haven't seen you be anything but civil, so i will return the favor. i took no issue with catwoman initially posting her concern. the problem with these complaints is that once the players get the answer, they keep arguing because they don't like the answer. Beholder has been unambiguous, and they have offered a variety of options. additionally, i have spoken up, trying to help, and have consequently ended up on the receiving end of all sorts of personal insults.

as this is a pvp game, you cannot completely prevent attacks. i'd love to stop anyone from attacking me, too, but then it wouldn't be a pvp game. if you want to play, you have to be susceptible to attacks. if we're talking just about subplasma attacks, first and foremost, put your nerves at ease - you can simply ignore them because they are harmless. if you focus on growth, you can work toward showing the higher level player who's boss the old-fashioned way. otherwise, you can go premium and turn off subplasma attacks (this is a for-profit game after all). you can go into the catacombs if you need a break. and you can get a scarab which will deter players who are seeking to drag you into their torture chamber.

if it were not for the torture chamber, there would be no value in attacking active players over inactive ones, but there is a torture chamber, and i cannot fill it with targets in my range. as said a few days ago, i have four targets in my range. i have 15 spaces i can fill. despite this, i do not use subplasmas ordinarily because they are not worth it to me. but sometimes, they are worth it. every once in a while, someone will perform really well in an event, and i'll want a piece of the action. but most of the time, it is because an event task compels me to do it. do i have to attack an active player? no, i could attack an inactive player, but an active player in my torture chamber is more valuable to me. so if i must make a subplasma attack, this is what i try to do.

from what you've described - a level 324 in my clan - i can now deduce who it is. i did not ask her to attack anyone. we are all equals in my clan. we make our own decisions, and i have not discussed this with her ...nor do i intend to, as she's just playing the game with the tools provided to her. have you tried messaging her directly?

Gerald, your sampling methodology is weak. you are looking at 15 years of complaints. players don't post about NOT being attacked. how many times have i attacked you? catwoman wasn't complaining about me either. i've explained the 5x4=20 subplasma attacks in january, of which enzio was a part, and why (path of loyalty task). i have explained that when i do make subplasma attacks, my goal is torture chamber loot (even if i once overlooked a relic). no one has contradicted my assertion that i made no attcks this month because i have been truthful, but you don't care because you're not here to reach any kind of resolution. you further demonstrate this lack of sincerity by dismissing my assertion that this mystery buddy of mine is acting on my instructions. correlation is not causation. if i wanted you attacked, i would attack you myself. but why would i bother since it's harmless? i do not attack with subplasmas regularly, but i could if i wanted, and whoever has hit you is operating entirely within the rules of the game. you are unable to articulate what the problem is with these attacks because your position is irrational. subplasma attacks are absolutely harmless. the only thing hurt is your ego, and your endless complaints here say far more about you than they do about me or anyone else.

you concede that i haven't attacked you, yet you carry on. you keep saying my buddy/friend has. i still don't even know who you mean. i haven't encouraged anyone to attack any of you. it has nothing to do with me. but to be clear, they certainly have the option to do so. i have used zero subplasmas in the month of february, as i completed my task over four days in january. i do not attack to annoy. if i did, you would know by now. those are the facts.

Neo2022, it's a player-vs-player game. attacking and being attacked is to be expected. the only one of these complaining players i've hit in months is enzio, and that's because i overlooked that he had the lesser scarab. apparently some other player has a different philosophy. subplasma attacks are annoying, but harmless. you can just ignore them, and that costs you zero ancient stones.

the pointless arguing has become boring again. good luck though. i'm sure this approach will serve you well.

the reason why low hit points matters is that you cannot attack a target low relative to their max hit points.

it's hard to believe you guys aren't deliberately misunderstanding what i'm saying. i don't know who 'my buddy' is who's attacking you, so why do you keep asking me why he's doing it? i've told you why i've done it: 1) subplasma tasks, 2) filling my torture chamber. enzio brought an instance to my attention where i hit him, and i've explain my mistake. if i were malicious, i'd be pounding the lot of you. your complaining has certainly justified it, and i have thousands of unused subplasmas at my disposal ...because i so rarely use them.

i don't know how i could possibly more directly answer the question, maxhths. when i must use subplasmas, i seek to fill my torture chamber with the most profitable players possible. now you: why is it a problem to 'suffer' a harmless attack that costs no SE?

enzio, if you had the regular scarab, i would lose no SE attacking you. the scarab only steals SE only when dragging a player into the torture chamber, and the scarab prevents the target of a subplasma attack from being dragged into the torture chamber. i've explained that i overlooked that you had the lesser scarab. i admit when i'm wrong. try it.

yes, as i sought active players to subplasma attack to complete the path of loyalty task, i looked to see who was active in the event, who had attacked my clan, who was in the Lady Alvariel's rankings, and who had won on the wheel of fortune. (see, i'm giving up all my tricks.) then i looked at the championship list and searched from my level downward. subplasma attacks upward cannot fill the torture chamber. i tried to avoid targets who met any of the following criteria: in my clan, in my horde, in the catacombs, in possession of a scarab, low on hit points, or aligned with the same huckster. because as i keep saying, my goal when i must subplasma attack is to drag active players into my torture chamber.

if you know of higher-level active players i can get into my torture chamber, please give me their names, and i will be sure to target them next time i have need. if you don't, then maybe consider that there's a possibility, albeit slight, that i might be telling the truth.

so again i ask, what is the problem with a literally harmless attack?
