Circles are two dimensional. Surface is a three dimensional concept. Two dimensional objects do not have surfaces. A circle can have an area or a perimeter (circumference). Here's how I would rewrite it:

When you double the diameter of a circle, how does its area change?

In W4, I got a ToD item to check the standings in Lady Alvariel 5 days in a row. W4 doesn't have Lady Alvariel yet. Please either create Lady Alvariel on W4 or replace that item for everyone who has it in W4. Or better yet, just mark it complete for me (Little Jon)

Doomlord is definitely starting to follow the same trajectory as other games I have played in the past. There are huge barriers for anyone new joining, and the reality is that people don't stay forever. They get bored, or things change IRL for them, and one by one, they quit. As the pool of players shrinks, it becomes less fun for the remaining players.

Merging the worlds somehow would only be a temporary bandaid, putting off the day of reckoning. The only solution I see is to move everything to a W4-style system, where there is a defined end, and then everyone starts over, with some kind of trophy case for various accomplishments (e.g. highest level, highest abilities, etc.). It doesn't have to include the W4-style speed changes, though. At the time that it starts over, all the new players would be on an even footing with the more experienced players. It would give everyone a chance to experiment with different hordes, player development strategies, etc. And the developers would have a chance to change things up, throw in new wrinkles, etc. on every reset. For example, when they introduced AA skills, they slapped on a minimum level to avoid people complaining about how they missed out on all those potential AA points. With this system, they could just add new features from level 0 at reset time. They should have 2 worlds running, with reset times offset, so new players could join whichever one was going to reset sooner.

Yet another example of the fact that if you don't know a topic, you can't judge its level of specialization. The number of people on this planet who could answer that question correctly without looking it up is at least in the hundred millions. It's like the blind men and the elephant. We all just know the part of the elephant we can touch, and we have no way to judge the other parts. That's why the whole specialized thing is incredibly stupid and needs to be replaced by googleability.

Really? The population of the US qualifies as a "small group of people" to you? 99% of the questions in the quiz db now are more specialized than that one. If you're going to complain about it, I would go for the misspelled "responses"...

Reading through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang, it seems like the correct answer should be Georges Lemaître or maybe Fred Hoyle. Gamow only published a paper which "lent theoretical support to the Big Bang theory".

Whether there is any connection between being outside in the rain and getting sick is at best debatable. Most, but not all, reports say that there is no connection. Personally, I think any attempt to distinguish between wisdom and knowledge is bound to be somewhat ambiguous as well.

Sbart already posted the link to the guideline that states that odd one out is not ok. I will also say that I had a question rejected because of the guideline. See posts 543-546 of http://forum.doomlord.net/index.php/topic,77.540. I don't really care one way or the other, but I would like all the evaluators to use the same guidelines, preferably the ones that are publicly posted.

It's not a rule, it's how the English language is used. If someone asks who said "I had a dream", every English speaker on the planet (with the possible exception of the 4 evaluators) would accept Martin Luther King, Jr. as the answer, even though his words were "I have a dream". In this specific context, that means that a mangled version of Santayana's quote would still be attributed to Santayana. Which means that the question had 2 correct answers. Yes, if you were aware of both quotes and their origins, you would know that Churchill was "more correct", but that clearly falls under the specific group category.

I have made a solid case for why the question should be changed. Now the burden is on you. Why is it better not to change it?

When you ask a question about who said quote X, you want the person who said it originally. I hope we can all agree on that much. In this context, if someone attempts to quote someone buts gets it a little off, they do not get credit for a new quote, unless you explicitly state otherwise. Even though these are not the words that Santayana used, he is credited as the originator of all of them:
Those who cannot learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who do not remember their past are condemned to repeat their mistakes.
Those who do not read history are doomed to repeat it.
Those who fail to learn from the mistakes of their predecessors are destined to repeat them.
Those who do not know history's mistakes are doomed to repeat them.

If you really want to keep Santayana in the answers, you need to change the question so that it states that it is asking for who said those specific words, and not the original form of the quote.

You have got to be kidding me. If you google the exact quote, the entire first page says Santayana. You have to actually scroll down a page to see Churchill. I'm not arguing that the person who said the precise quote in question was Churchill, but by all the standards of this quiz, including Santayana makes it an ambiguous question. Please just change the Santayana wrong answer to P.T. Barnum or some other often-quoted person.

I think the "end of a movie" part is definitely confusing. I can't think of any movies that have crawlers at the end. In my experience, crawlers are most common on news and sports channels, so I think it would be clearer to ask something like "What is the term for the display of moving text on the bottom of a TV screen, often seen on news and sports channels?"

Me too. 49/50 due to bad question. Mine asked who said "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it", which Winston Churchill said, but he was paraphrasing an earlier quote by George Santayana, and both were listed as options. Please change George Santayana to a less confusing wrong answer.

Maybe you could add "According to tradition" or some such to distinguish it from the scientific context.

I would personally prefer that major spoilers like those not appear in the quiz. I've seen the movies, so the answers were obvious to me. But I feel that some people might see the movies in the future, and I wouldn't want to ruin their enjoyment by giving away the ending. (Though there are so many other sources of spoilers out there, I'm quite surprised that there's anyone left who didn't already know the Soylent Green one)

Anything I have trouble with like that, I'm putting as does not fit any category. I'm hoping that once the bulk of stuff has been categorized, someone will go through all the questions like that and make new categories that will fit them.
