What was the doctor's nick-name on the original TV series of Star Trek?
Bones <- marked as correct
Doc
Sleepy
Grumpy

Yet another specialised question. And yes I have watched nunmerous episodes of Star Treck, and even some of the original series, (thogh to my knowledge the original series have not been brodcast here), but had to look it up.

Commander of what branch of German army was Ernst Roehm-WW2?
Wehrmacht (army)
SS-Schutzstaffel
Kriegsmarine (Navy)
SA-Sturmabteilung

I had to read this question a few times before I realized what was actually asked (and the guys name is Ernst Röhm).
Would suggest to change the question to:
"What branch of the army did Ernst Röhm command in Nazi Germany?" (He actually died before WW2, so i don't know what that is doing in the question)

there's been more than one production. anyone else waiting for part two of the animated film from 1978? picky, i know. but more precision in the question is helpful.

Which is the highest military rating?
Staff Sergeant
Sergeant First Class
Sergeant
Private

Please change the question from "... rating" to "... rank in the USA Army" Thanks

Which of these is not true about Norah Jones?
Her album Come Away with Me earned 5 Grammy Awards.
She is the daughter of Ravi Shankar.
She plays piano/keyboards and guitar.
She never played in any movie. <------ given as correct

Apart from being specialist and a "not true" style question she has appeared twice in movies.

Which makes the answer correct ("She never played in any movie" is false as she has played in at least two), but still not a good question in my oppinion. 1st: you have to know/research way to much about her for a 1:40/5 minute quiz. 2nd: "odd one out" questions of this type are never good questions, in my oppinion.

Yet another example of the fact that if you don't know a topic, you can't judge its level of specialization. The number of people on this planet who could answer that question correctly without looking it up is at least in the hundred millions. It's like the blind men and the elephant. We all just know the part of the elephant we can touch, and we have no way to judge the other parts. That's why the whole specialized thing is incredibly stupid and needs to be replaced by googleability.

What boxer holds the record for youngest professional debut?
Teddy Baldock
Kid Laredo
Jack Dempsey
Baby Arizmendi

Some claimed that Baby Arizmendi was 10 BUT this is hard to prove.

The Ring magazine said that Baby Arizmendi was perhaps the youngest person ever to have become a professional boxer; he turned pro at the ripe old age of 13, although some swore he was only seven when he had his first pro fight. Others have him listed as 10.

I don't think anyone knows for sure but here's another list that I have:

Len Harvey 12 years 175 days, Pro Debut January 2, 1920
Teddy Baldock 12 years 298 days. Pro debut Mrach 14, 1921
Baby Arizmendi 13 years 208 days, Pro debut March 17, 1914
Rodolfo Gonzalez 13 years 336 days, Pro debut November 17, 1959

Also, Al Diamond out of Paterson New Jersey was just 13 when he started in 1927.

What two chemical elements, each deadly by itself, when combined are necessary for life?
Sodium and Chlorine
Fluorine and Sodium
Chlorine and Fluorine
Chlorine and Plutonium

I've found this information on the internet:
Understanding Salt and Sodium

By ANN LOUISE GITTLEMAN, N.D., M.S.

SODIUM IS ESSENTIAL TO LIFE.

Sodium is so important, in fact, that humans have a specific sensor on the tongue that can detect salt.

But I've also found this:
Additional mineral nutrient elements which are beneficial to plants but not necessarily essential include sodium, cobalt, vanadium, nickel, selenium, aluminum and silicon.
http://www.cartage.org.lb/en/themes/Sciences/BotanicalSciences/PlantHormones/EssentialPlant/EssentialPlant.htm

Sodium is not essential to any life form. Also, I doubt chlorine is necessary for life. Besides, each and every element is deadly, so that part doesn't add any value to the question.
My overall conclusion is: nice try, I like this kind of questions, but this one just isn't correct.

Misleading here is use of "sodium" both to specify an elementary compound (metal sodium) and element in compounds (usually in form of sodium ions). For sure, metal sodium will kill if somebody eats it (even though it is pretty difficult to do) or will cause severe chemical burns in contact with skin, eyes etc.

On the other way, in form of salts it is essential for living organisms to function. This is meant in the question by stating "when combined". In the links you have found the word "ion" or "compound" is just omitted.

So, from my point of view, the question may be not strict enough for the competition in Chemistry, but is fine for this game quiz.

The sun rises in the ...?
Southeast <- correct in the winter for high northern/southern latitudes
West
North
East <- marked as correct.

Lets try this again! The sun rises anywhere from north over east to south depending on your location and the time of the year. So this one has two correct answers. Change southeast to southwest and it's ok.

Which planet is the brightest object in the sky?
Venus
Jupiter <- marked as correct
Earth
Mars

That would be after the sun and the moon

What is a "sim" card?
A card used with camera's or camcorders
A card used in laptop computers
A card used in the game titled "The Sims"
A card used with mobile/cell phones <- marked as correct

This used to be correct, but many laptop computers now have a built-in 3G modem requiring a sim-card to operate, and some cameras also have slots for a sim-card to alow them to transmit images over the 3G network. So this question has become ambiguous.

i was denied a quiz question for spelling errors here is one i wish you all to look at and decide good or bad

Why does fire dies when we put water on it?
The sudden pressure change blows the fire away
Because of a chemical reaction with it
It cools down the burning material
Water removes all the oxygen

I have answered that question once or twice today/night, and strictly speaking it's not correct.

It is true that in most cases when water is used to extinguish fire it is the cooling effect that puts out the fire, but in some situations fire is smothered by water.

But water might cool down the burning material, but in some cases pouring water on burning material has no effect, and submerging it in water might or might not put out the fire, depending on the burning material. In fact some materials might self-ignite if they come in contact with water.

Hair q now reads: How many hairs does an average young adult have?

Jeopardy and Bones questions are both ok. I am familiar with Jeopardy way of game through books, films, pc games, even a music video that mentiones it and i have never actually seen this game. Also the point made for Star trek is valid, it is a main character known by that name throughout the series so not a detail. The 65% correct rate veryfies this.

Bilbo q deleted since this is also in database:Which actor plays the part of bilbo baggins in the lord of the rings trilogy?

Ernst Röhm Q modified as suggested

Army rank q modified as suggested

Nora Jones q is ok, i agree only on the long research if you get it first time. But for me is a long research to get the answers on some lord of the rings questions i get first time. That does not make them bad. This one is actually a very good type of question to teach a few facts about this person. Mind you, i also had no idea what the answer was, just enjoyed the chance to learn

Dobermann q now reads: Where was the doberman bred for the first time?

Tiny monsters removed

Diamond q: I am about to start doubting my sanity. The q was changed again please tell me if you get ti corrected this time.

Boxer q: So is the question wrong or not? Any other player with data on that please help

Sodium q: Eukar is right. Is like another debate with poisons we had, generally this question is ok. If you start going into the details you can say it is not quite accurate but this is not a chemistry exam

Sun q fixed

Jupiter q is ok since it asks which PLANET is the brightest. Moon and sun are not planets so they are by default excluded from answers

Sim card q: Fixed answers in a way that they are still ok even with current developments. You will see when you get it again

Any other votes in favour of deleting Ford question?

Water q: Cooling of material is the main reason most fires are put out so even if at some rare cases due to the very big ammount of water is also smothered, the answer is ok. Good point on the type of fire though, changed q to Why does a camp fire dies when we put water on it?
