here we go again...

David Schwarz (1852-1897) is not German, he's a Croatian Jew who lived in Zagreb, state capital...

as for the medicine, I agree..didn't notice the Chinese being so early

and btw, I didn't say "croatian government site" I said government...meaning historians and aproved by them...it is taught in books not just in my country, and the museums hold the proofs..so, you can say what u want..

btw, u didn't list any of your sources (more authentic than one's government, or otherwise..)

as for googling, google croatia inventions, and sites will state those things listed by me.. you can on the other hand also search any thing on the internet and you'll probably find sources that contradict each other...

but, as you said, let the admins decide. I do however agree that it confuses people.. but still, there's 50% answer rate..which is more than some less debatable questions in the database...

Why are there now 2 big relics and 2 small relics in the auction? There used to be 4 big ones and 2 small ones and should stay like that

you call wiki more authentic than educational program approved by the government (and I don't mean Croatian government, I wouldn't trust my government if they told me the sun is yellow... but the government of former Yugoslavia, and even before Yugoslavia)...

the sites I listed, you can maybe call the bias, but they come from documents in possesion of museums, so there are physical proofs..

As for the parachute, you can see from the time line that Faust was the first to construct it, and even jumped with it (and survived ), and that it was credited in a book. Even though grandmaster Leonardo has made some sketches before..

But I tell you what - you can exchange the thing that bothers you the most from the list with zeppelin, or forensic medicine

(I didn't want to put Nikola Tesla seeing that there are still arguments was he Croat or Serb...)

PS - I cut a big portion of text about Faust to remove unnecessary bio info, didn't bother to read all

Which nation invented parachute, torpedo, neck-tie and 1st mechanical pen?
Americans
British
Italians
Croats*

There are quite a few misunderstandings regarding inventions. The Q should go.

A ballpoint pen (also eponymously known in British English and Australian English as a biro and pronounced /ˈbaɪroʊ/ BYE-roh in Britain and Australia but sometimes /ˈbɪəroʊ/ BEER-oh elsewhere, named after its credited, though contested, inventor László Bíró) is a modern writing instrument.

The first usage of the term torpedo to refer to a naval explosive was by American inventor Robert Fulton.
The first torpedo designed to attack a specific target was the spar torpedo invented by by E. C. Singer, a private engineer who worked on secret projects for the benefit of the Confederate States of America.

The modern parachute was invented in the late 18th century by Louis-Sébastien Lenormand in France, who made the first recorded public jump in 1783.

And finally, the necktie was "invented" by croatians.

Nice try. However, there are no misunderstandings(well, maybe one)...

Faust Vrancic, born in Sibenik in 1551, died in Venice 1617, (...) His most interesting invention was, certainly, a parachute or “Homo volans” (The Flying Man) as called by Vrancic himself. Faust Vrancic performed a jump with his parachute somewhere in Venice in order to test it. This fact is explicitely stated in a book written by English bishop John Willkins (1614-1672), secretary of the Royal Society in London, only 30 years after the jump. The title of his book which contains this important testimony about Faust Vrancic is Mathematical Magic of the Wonders that may be Performed by Mechanical Geometry, part I: Concerning Mechanical Powers Motion, part II, Deadloss or Mechanical Motions, published in London in 1648.

that's for the parachute...

this is for the pen:

http://www.croatia.org/crown/articles/7682/1/E-Croatian-invented-worlds-first- mechanical-pencil-100-years-ago.html

and

http://inventors.about.com/od/pstartinventors/a/Croatian.htm

there are of course, more...

This is for the torpedo (the only thing that might be debated..)

Modern torpedo, self-propelled projectile which is launched from the ship, submarine and helicopter is invention of an croatian retired naval officer Ivan-Lupis-Vukić. Although similar gadgets, like submarine mines , existed 50 years before, he was the first invented the missile that can move alone. In the 1860 year he presented his invention to the Austro-Hungarian navy. With the authorization of the navy , in the city Rijeka was founded the factory 'Torpedo' that was producing those missiles.
Projectiles received the name from that factory. In the year 1870 missile had coverage until 1000 yards( 912 meters) and maximal speed of 6 knots(1 čvor= 1.852 km/h).
In the year 1881 factory started to export torpedoes into other countries. First ship that was sanked with torpedo was the Blanco Encalada , sanked in the Chilean civil war, at the 23rd April by the torpedo boat Lynch.
Torpedoes are today obligation parts of an every naval troop.

The fact that Jerko (btw, odakle si, Jerko?) didn't get the riddle, doesn't make the question wrong...

Oh, stekkos, and did u start think than lots of countries synchronize their shows, so this particular line might not be that well known? (luckily, I am not in those countries. But I still don't know the answer..)
Dátum: 2010.03.08. 09:34:05
2-3 of us, @lvl 36 and around, will very soon start the "5 draws" quest. We will take the famous "stekkos approach" to this matter ( Hi, Stekkos ) and are looking for players around our lvl (or stats) to join in and work as a team.

Contact me in-game for further instructions..

my question was

how long must a chef train before he is permitted to cook fugu fish for the public

2 months
7 years
3 years <--
18 weeks

apparently only a special group of people might know. Thats wwrong, if it's only a special group of people, how would i know when i'm only 10 years old!?
no anger here, just asking

I agree, this should be a valid question, and, more importantly, an INTERESTING fact to know. Unlike those zillion "who wrote what" questions...

Thanx, Drakel, for posting it here...
