Idézet: JohNed - 2010.08.18. 15:10:04 So if I had written the question as: As of 2010, the two most recent expansion teams... would it have been accepted as a good question?
The answer is a definite maybe. Since MLB is only USA/Canada, you've got a bit of an uphill struggle to get any baseball questions approved. But without that "As of 2010", you've got no chance.
Idézet: JohNed - 2010.08.18. 15:10:04 I agree (in principle) with the concept of keeping questions that might not be correct in the future out of the database. However, I have seen several questions that violate this principle accepted as good questions.
In theory, you post those to this thread, and the admins should delete them. In theory...

Idézet: Vulture01 - 2010.08.16. 23:16:59 why my question rejected? Its very very obvious what the correct answer is. Any google serach will put the information number one in results......
What is `Agent Orange'?
A herbicide used in the Vietnam War
A character from the game half life 2
A character from the movie `Bananas in Pajamas go Wild'
A grunge rock and roll band
The question is valued as "Bad, incorrect question"!
Your answers are ambiguous or wrong to this question.
There appears to be a real band named Agent Orange. They don't sound very grungy, but maybe that was enough for the evaluator to reject it. Other than that, and the fact that I hate backquotes, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Idézet: MsPiggy - 2010.08.15. 03:25:32 And since no adequate definition for specialised knowledge can be given, although I appreciate the efforts made, it would be best to just abandon it.
You can't just abandon it, though. Otherwise, I could ask what I ate for breakfast on a given date, and it would have to be accepted. There has to be some kind of line. Personally, I'd like to see something that takes several factors into account. Maybe something like:
How specialized is the subject? Rate -3 to +3
How easy is it to find the answer via google? Rate -2 to +2
How well written is the question? Rate -1 to +1
How educational is the question? Rate -1 to +1
If the question gets a negative total, reject it. Otherwise accept it. It wouldn't need to be that formalized; the numbers were just to illustrate how different factors could be weighted, showing that if a question is well written, educational, and easy to answer via google, it can be extremely specialized and still get accepted in my little theory. This would still involve a lot of judgment calls on the part of the evaluators, and not everyone would agree with the factors I think are important. But that's how I'd do it if I got to be dictator of evaluators.

Here's another suggestion. There should be a page that shows you who you have in the Torture Chamber. And you should be able to kick people out to replace them if you want.

Hey Mouse, what took you so long?
It's been suggested multiple times. I even pointed out once that on Tag it was only available to premium players, as well as that I knew several people who paid their premium money for no other reason than access to the in-game chat. It doesn't hurt to keep suggesting it, but I wouldn't hold your breath.

Idézet: stekkos - 2010.08.14. 04:19:54 As mentioned many times, it is not the ease of finding the answer in google that makes a question good.
I understand that's the theory, but I just don't believe it in practice. For one thing, if a question comes in on a topic that is completely outside the evaluator's experience, the only way they have of seeing whether the question is special or not is using google. If they can't find the answer in 5 minutes, they would have to reject the question by default. If they find the answer in the top link of google, of course they are more likely to approve it. You imply as much here:
However i would have given the special evaluation since is something most people will not be able to answer in 5min hunt time.
Also, from the players' point of view, having an obscure question that is easily answerable via google is all good. If the question is both esoteric and hard to google, that's a problem. I'm not saying that google should be used as a litmus test. But in cases where the question is in a gray area on the specialized knowledge test, the googlability should be considered as one factor (and, like I said, I believe it typically is, in practice).
Idézet: stekkos - 2010.08.14. 04:19:54 I studied advanced math calsses both in highschool and college, and cannot bring myslf to remember this one after all these years...
I'm guessing that your math teachers might be a little disappointed to hear that.
I figured there was a 50/50 chance of getting that question rejected due to the arguments you make. In the US, I'd say at least half the population never makes it to the level of math where they would encounter e. I expect the population that plays Doomlord is generally better educated, but some of the players might not be old enough to have gotten that far. Anyway, moving on now...

Idézet: stekkos - 2010.08.13. 15:18:33 I agree its not an arithmetic problem. However i would have given the special evaluation since is something most people will not be able to answer in 5min hunt time.
How about if I changed the wording from "mathematical symbol" to "mathematical constant"? Then google's top search result is the wikipedia article that answers the question.
I'd also like to hear an evaluator comment on the Ghostbusters question I posted in the will my question be accepted thread.
Dátum: 2010.08.13. 14:38:18
Which of these is true of the mathematical symbol e?
The derivative of f(x) = e^x is always e^x, regardless of x.
It is the square root of negative 1.
It is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter.
It is the ratio of a regular pentagon's diagonal to its side.
According to evaluators your question is too easy or an arithmetic problem.
I protest! This is not an arithmetic problem. You do not have to calculate anything. Not like the brick one, or the one where the correct answer is 88^2 + 33^2 = 8833, or this one that I just got:
When asked how old she was Suzie replied "In two years I will be twice as old as I was five years ago." How old is Suzie?
Those are all arithmetic problems, mine is a general mathematical knowledge question. Please clarify, if there is a guideline that my question does not satisfy, what guideline it is.

Idézet: ChaoticGemini - 2010.08.12. 21:18:26 I don't think knowing the movie is special knowledge, but you just list the phrase with no reference where to begin looking for an answer. If you said something like "Complete this horror movie phrase" or "According to the Nightmare on Elm Street" etc. it would give people, like Martin, a frame of reference.
On the other hand, a google search turned up the correct answer quickly. I think this is basically the same case I was asking about in
http://forum.doomlord.net/index.php/topic,72.0#hsz12. If the context gets in the way of the question, or there's just not enough characters allowed to fit both the context and the question, and google is sufficient without the context, is it ok to leave the context off?

- Like how much wil my HP rize if I add points to my constitution, if constiturion means endurance
I haven't seen any formulas regarding the other stats, but HP and SP are both functions of level * constitution and level * magic, respectively. I.e. if you buy a point of constitution, your HP will go up by your level, and if you buy a point of magic, your SP will go up by your level. And when you gain a level, your HP and SP will go up by the value of your constitution and magic.

It's an auction house relic. So, first you need to be level 24. Then you have to acquire ducats, which you can do by spending action points and by selling Dimension Gate items and a few other ways. Then you have to wait for the system to put that particular relic up for auction. Then you have to be the high bidder on the item. Easy, right?

Wasn't my question, but I understand what they meant. You start with, say 100 units of something. You lose 10%, so now you have 90. What percentage gain do you need to get back to 100? The answer would be 11.111111111%.

"None of the above" type answers have been outlawed. You probably got the misspelling status as a way to avoid penalizing you for an otherwise good question. My guess is it will probably be accepted if you resubmit with another scientist's name as the last option. Perhaps you could make up a name to try to keep your joke in there, but that might still get it rejected.

A few more ideas:
Arena war: Like a championship, all the battles would take place behind the scenes, and you would just find out the result after it was all done. Everyone would start out full up on HP and SP, but you would not regenerate to full between battles. Maybe you would regen 1 hour worth between battles. If you get executed, you are out. Battles continue until all the players on one side are executed.
Clan championship: A series of arena wars culminating in one clan being champion. SE rewards would be placed in the clan soul wells of the top clans.
Epic contest: two clans would work together to take down a bigger epic monster. Whichever clan did more damage would get the reward in their treasury.

Is it possible to get the answers to have US standard units as well for those of us who were taught outside of Europe and Asia.
I don't get it. You want the answer to the question "How long is a mile?" to be "1 mile"? What's the point of that? If the question is "How tall is the Eiffel Tower?" or something, I'm there with you. I think the options should always be presented in both metric and US, so as not to favor any population. I proposed that already and got shot down, so it is what it is.

I've been thinking about wars. Anything close to a fair fight ends up being extremely self destructive. Even if you win, the reward doesn't come close to covering the cost of being on a wartime footing for more than a few days. Especially as Citadels of Destruction come onto the scene. But the concept of a clan vs. clan conflict is fun. So I've been trying to come up with ways to make it work as something other than a way for strong clans to pick on weak ones:
- Skirmish: works just like a war, except it ends after 3 days, period. Whoever is up at that point wins. But the reward for winning is much less, basically just symbolic.
- Friendly: both sides would need to approve the conflict. Again, it would last just 3 days, and there would be no reward at all, other than the victory in the clan's count. I'm thinking this could be used to organize a tournament of clans.
- Scholarly dispute: challenges would count. (maybe only challenges?)

Idézet: Dolp13 - 2010.08.06. 20:15:05 How does Spectral manipulation work? Is it automatically figured into the equation? I am tryimg to see how it works for hunts.
It boosts your hunt rewards, but it does so silently, behind the scenes. Nothing tells you that you got X extra SE from the hunt, like it does for answering the quiz question right. So, other than keeping good records of your average hunt reward, you have to just accept on faith that it's working. The good news is that way it does stack with the quiz bonus. I.e. if your base reward was 100SE, you have 10 levels of SM, and you got the quiz question correct, you get 100 * 1.1 * 1.1 = 121, and what you will see is that you got 121 and 11 was from answering the quiz question correctly. If they had rolled SM in with the quiz bonus, you would have gotten 100 * 1.2 = 120.
