I just attacked a player and first message from battle report states

This duel cost +1 duel point.

it took 2 duel points from me, i didnt have any penaltys and ive not seen that before, hard enough to accumulate duel points without it costing me double now.

You have Hall of Peace built in your clan, that is one of its effects:

"and if you are victorious in a duel when you attack, you have 10% chance to lose one extra duel point. "

From http://world2.doomlord.net/index.php?m=jatekleiras:

Strength: The greater stregth you have, the more damage you deal to your opponents in physical fight.
Attack: This ability defines how good a fighter you are and how much chance you have to hit your opponent.
Defense: As the attack increases your chance to hit, the defense decreases the opponents' chance to hit.
Constitution: Your constitution and level will define how much damage you can endure.
IQ: In a magic combat your minds lean against each other. The higher the difference (to your favour), the bigger the chance that your spell makes full damage and does not miss your opponent.
Thaumaturgy: Higher taumaturgy means greater spell damage, and it increases other effects of the spell as well.
Magic: Your magic and level will define the total sum of your spell points.

My take:
All effects are the same, regardless of whether you initiated the duel or your opponent did. There are clan buildings where this is not true, but for abilities, it is true.

Attack helps you score hits. If you do hit, Strength increases your damage. Defense helps you avoid getting hit. IQ is attack and defense both for spells. Thaumaturgy is strength for spells. Your hit points and spell points are calculated using a formula involving your level times your Constitution and Magic, respectively. Note also that because you regenerate your full amount of hit points/spell points in a 24 hour period, increasing your HP/SP also increases the rate of regeneration of your HP/SP.

If you are going to be a (successful) dueler, you need to be at or near the top of the ability totals within your level.

The crystal would give you a 4% chance to stun your opponent and cause a -10 to their attack. You will eventually get a quest to stun your opponent at least 3 times.

wot is the infection i keep reading about

From lvl 20 (I think?) there will be a special folder in your misc tab. Each time you reach a lvl from that time, you have a short time (1 day?) to fight the infection (it costs SE). If you will fight the infection, it will be lessened by 1%, otherwise, it will grow by 1%. It starts on 50%.
If you are 100% infected, you can fight all the doomlords even those of your horde (excluding your clanmates).
If you are 0% infected, You have got +5 for your all ability, with the mind boost you can have 1 more skills than the maximum, and you can loot more SE from the infected characters with the different in your infection percent and his/her percent.

I didn't play on a hungarian server, so if it has some other perks I don't know of, somebody correct me.

Fighting infection seems to be phenomenally expensive for what seems like marginal (at best) gains. What are the reasons that someone would make that investment - because +5 per attribute doesn't really cut it... Plus, if I read it right, since you start at 50%, it'll actually take 50 levels before you get rid of the infection... Based on 50 levels, that's an SE cost of 652,500 to fight it off - for an extra 30 Attribute points???

Fighting the infection gives the ability to take your skills 5 points ABOVE MAX. That can mean +100% se from squeezing, +5% se from hunting, +25%se building, etc. Also, unless you have been a builder, at level 70 most of your abilities will be >200 at least. So increasing them by 5 would have cost minimum 150000se FOR EACH ABILITY! (-30% from ultraspecialization skill included in this estimate). Excluding constitution and magic, that is a total cost of 750000se. Now thats a lot more than you paid for fighting the infection.

Regardless that, the skills bonus alone more than makes up for the cost. Still it is a players choice wether to fight or not, getting 100% infection has also it benefits. (attacking all hordes, getting more se from duels)

If you stun at first round he looses his attack for all the rounds after that. And you can stun multible times per combat. The -10 adds up after each succesfull stun

Stunning will be more as you get better items and dimension gate rings. So dont rush to get that 4% focus stone now, if you are in a clan that has or will soon have, a dimension gate the are 2 rings giving 7% and 12%.

hi

im havent ben a ble to locate much info on wars, when one side wins how is the booty (SE) determeined? there is a vague reference to the power relation bewteen 2 clans but no explanation of that that means even

is it based on size of soul well, how full it is or is it based on the level diferences between players on both sides or combo of all

thanks in advance

Both.
The winner gets 15-30% of the loosers soul-wellcapacity, 15% if the winners "power" (depending on the characters levels) is 2x bigger or more than the loosers, 30% if they are equal or the winners are "weaker" (in level as i said).

I have searched through the forum for a full explanation of the effect of infection, but there seem to be a few different versions, so what are the benefits of 0% or 100% infection?

Combining them all gives this list:
If you are 100% infected:
* you can fight all doomlords/doomladies even those of your own horde.
* get more SE from duels.

If you are 0% infected, you get:
* +5 to your abilities
* the potential to loot more SE from infected players (based on the difference between infection levels) ??
* the ability to take your skills 5 points ABOVE MAX

Witch of these effects are correct? anyone able to verify?

Don't see why this information should not be available either under rules or FAQ.
