seriously, how well known do you have to be to not be a special group!

You have to be known by the one particular evaluator who gets assigned the question.

please tell me which of these words is mispelled

According to scholars, why did man domesticate grain?
stable food source
beer
they were bored
didn't want to chase down fast animals

None.

Domesticate and grain don't go very well with each other. But still, it is a valid synonym.

Well firstly there should be men not man :-) at least I suppose so...its odd to invalidate question because of this but maybe its the problem. anyway Im starting to be really sick of these Quiz questions...

Harry Potter details should not be in. if you come across a question like that post it into the quiz errors topic and will be removed.
back to your musketeers: everyone knows them, who they were and what they were doing. but your question asks deep from the story that's why you got the special evaluation.

The name Hiawatha is famous from Longfellow's poem. What was the historical Hiawatha known for?

Founding the Iroquois confederacy
Helping the Pilgrims survive
Helping Lewis and Clark explore
Inventing the Cherokee syllabry

The question is valued as "Bad, incorrect question"!
According to evaluators your question is ambiguous.

I figured there was at least a 50/50 chance this would get marked as too special, but ambiguous? Anyone see anything ambiguous at all?

The OP was using man in the sense of mankind. Both "men" and "man" makes sense there.

My guess is actually that the evaluator couldn't confirm the correctness of the answer but denied the question on the basis of spelling so as not to penalize the asker. In my short google search (remember, the evaluators only get 5 minutes to do their evaluation), it appears as though the matter is not actually settled. Some researchers think beer, some think bread.

Who won the Italian serie A in 2009?

Is in the Quiz

Yet

Sidney Crosby won the NHL Stanley Cup in 2009 with what team?

Gets rejected (in spite of being able to figure out the answer either by the 2009 Cup -or- by who Crosby plays for)

Just a continued European Bias... Awesome.

So my next question is, "Who assesses the evaluators?"

Where did 'The Charge of the Light Brigade' take place?

England
Germany
France
RUSSIA

According to evaluators only a special group of people might know the answer.

I am sorry but I don't understand this reason at all. If that reason for rejection is valid, it applies to every question asked. The Charge of the Light Brigade is renowned in history, movies and literature.

Where is the consistency?

As long as questions are evaluated by individual Moderators and not by mass-peer review (as I've suggested a few times), there will never be consistency.

No idea why this one was rejected. Anyone see something I don't?

He is the founder of NASCAR. Who is he?

Mike Helton
Bill France
Richard Petty
Tiny Lund

The question is valued as "Bad, incorrect question"!

There is a Bill France, Sr. that founded NASCAR and then passed it to his son Bill France, Jr.
In this case, the junior and senior titles seemed important.

Regardless, it's still Bill France so the answer would still be valid.

I agree, this is a good history question. Next they'll be rejecting, "who was Florence Nightingale?"

Someone obviously beat me to it.....

What is an Evaluator?

One who estimates officially the worth or value or quality of things
Someone chosen to judge and decide a disputed issue
An expert whose views are taken as definitive
All of the above

The question is valued as "Bad, incorrect question"!
This question is already part of the database.

Ok, explain this:

Recently approved (and not my question, as I've pretty much quit asking any):
Which team won the Stanley Cup in 2009?

Question of mine refused:
Sidney Crosby played for what team that won the Stanley Cup in 2009?

How does my easier question get rejected, when a virtually identical question gets approved? I am getting phenomenally sick and tired of this crap!

Viridrel, you are still complaining about the obvious: Which team won a recent major championship is good, asking about players of the team is not. Your question might be the same or easier, it is not the point.
